Our Story
My name is Philip Mauro. I have built businesses, worked in estate gardens, restored furniture, and spent much of my life finding possibilities in plants, objects, and spaces that others might overlook. I am also a son and a brother, trying to understand a painful change in the family I love.
The family I knew
Growing up, my sister Regina made me feel special and loved. She took me on adventures in the park looking for David the Gnome. I remember family summers on Cape Cod, time with her children, and how comfortable I felt in her home. I have known her husband David since I was a small child. Before Dad died, I looked forward to their visits and spoke about their family with enormous pride.
My father, Reynold A. Mauro, was my confidant and the person I turned to for reassurance. In a school essay, long before this conflict, I called him my hero. One memory I wrote about was making handprints together in preschool: his hand beside my small one.
What changed after Dad died
Dad died on September 2, 2025. There had been difficult household interactions before his death, but I experienced his presence as a source of balance. Afterward, I felt that grief, caregiving, decisions about the house, and questions about our future all arrived at once.
I wanted time to breathe, review the options, and prepare for independence. I also worried about my mother and my brother Reynold. Other family members saw the situation differently. As decisions accelerated, I felt increasingly unheard and overwhelmed.
I have made mistakes and have not handled every part of this period well. My account is one perspective in a family disagreement. My hope is that the complete history can be examined fairly, including information that challenges my understanding.
Why I am sharing recordings
Real Life Uncut brings together selected family recordings from an archive I have collected over several years. Some predate Dad’s death; others document the period afterward. They give listeners an opportunity to hear exchanges that are difficult to describe in a few sentences.
Descriptions identify whether they rely on my recollection, a supplied transcript, an archive label, or reviewed material. Uncertain dates and wording remain identified as uncertain. Selected excerpts cannot represent every interaction or establish anyone’s motives on their own.
I still love my family. I want room to grieve, a fair hearing, and the opportunity to rebuild. I do not want this conflict to become the final story of who we are to one another.
